More Than Daycare
It probably seems like just yesterday that this amazing child arrived in your world. So much happens during the first year. It’s almost as if you can see the neural pathways connecting at lightning speed as your child grows and develops. What was impossible yesterday seems easy today. Crawling. Walking. Talking. Exploring. All this in such a short time!
You’ve likely thought about daycare, but probably not about “school.” Think again. It may not feel like it, but this is the first step of your child’s educational journey.
We promise: Your toddler is ready for more than daycare.
Wellan offers toddlers more—without sacrificing full-day coverage.
What Does "More" Look Like?
*A Montessori-certified teacher or a teacher currently enrolled in a Montessori certification program leads each Beginner classroom with the help of at least one Montessori-trained assistant.
FOSTERING INDEPENDENCE
At Wellan, we teach independence by encouraging children to perform and take responsibility for tasks often completed for them by adults in a daycare setting. Through our Montessori Practical Life Curriculum, our youngest students engage in activities ranging from washing hands, dressing, and food preparation to tasks like watering plants, sweeping, and cleaning spills. With the necessary support and encouragement, students develop the confidence and the skills to tackle big tasks independently. This approach empowers children to take ownership of their daily routines and care. To learn more about this aspect of our curriculum, read our Practical Life blog post here.
EXPRESSIVE LANGUAGE
A toddler's ability to communicate is a fundamental aspect of healthy development. At Wellan, our youngest learners are regularly encouraged to express themselves using language. Our Beginner curriculum strengthens early language skills through meaningful student-teacher conversations that are woven into daily tasks as well as through weekly lessons led by specialists in Early Literacy, Spanish Language, and Music. This multidisciplinary approach not only fosters language acquisition but also supports the formation of robust neural pathways for literacy in the developing brain.
ACADEMIC FOUNDATIONS
Our Beginner curriculum builds a strong academic foundation that prepares children for more advanced education, particularly for the enriched curriculum offered in our Primary program (designed for children ages 3-6). In addition to Early Literacy, Spanish Language, and Music lessons, our toddlers receive developmentally tailored instruction in Pre-math, Art, Sensorial Exploration, Practical Life Skills, and Cultural Studies. All subject areas are seamlessly integrated into daily experiences, hands-on activities, and problem-solving opportunities that are designed to exercise autonomy, curiosity, and creative expression. Toddlers leave our Beginner program with a sense of mastery, intrinsic motivation, high self-esteem, and a passion for learning that stays with them throughout their educational journey.
MOTOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT
We recognize the vital role of movement and gross motor development in toddlers' overall growth and learning. Beginner students engage in outdoor movement-based activity for at least one hour each day, weather permitting. Our classrooms are designed to encourage independent physical exploration and active engagement, providing ample opportunity for toddlers to develop coordination, strength, and balance. By allowing toddlers the freedom to move and explore their environment, we build healthy physical habits and support the natural development of both body and mind.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Strong partnerships between parents and educators enrich each child's experience at Wellan. Parents have ample opportunity to engage in student life by attending family events like Drive-in Movies, the Cardboard Challenge, and the End of Year picnic, or by participating in classroom activities as a Guest Presenter. Comprehensive communication channels also keep parents fully informed and connected. Expect daily photo and video sharing via the Kambu App, weekly all-school update emails, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Curriculum Night, Parent Education events, and more!
"Play is the work of the child." - Maria Montessori
Play is a natural and purposeful activity through which children learn and develop essential skills and understanding about the world around them. Children engage in play not just for leisure but as a meaningful and significant part of their growth and development.
