Fast Facts

Elevate Wellan is a 2-year campaign launching in March 2025.

Priorities of this comprehensive campaign include the Wellan Accessibility and Expansion project, new curricular initiatives, the Wellan Endowment, and the Annual Fund.

Campaign Drivers

Accessibility is a central driver of the facilities project in our Main Building. Expansion of the existing building footprint will add nearly 5,000 square feet of additional space that open up new learning opportunities for all students. The expected completion date is Fall 2025.

Community Impact

All Elevate Wellan campaign priorities will impact our whole school community, including Wellan’s current 300+ students and nearly 100 full-time faculty & staff, as well as all future Wellan teachers and learners.

ACCESSIBILITY & EXPANSION

The Wellan Accessibility and Expansion Project will enhance accessibility in the Main Building by installing a four-stop elevator, adding an accessibility corridor and ramp on the ground floor, and bringing the building into full ADA compliance. Simultaneously, the 5,000-square-foot expansion will introduce three floors of new educational space, including community gathering areas, meeting and office rooms, a dedicated movement and gross motor room, and a new library space. After completing the building addition, the project will focus on playground renovations, incorporating accessible pathways, rubberized surfaces, an improved drainage system, and new play features.

CURRICULAR INITIATIVES

Expanding Wellan’s facilities through Elevate Wellan will allow the School to reorganize existing spaces and undertake several new curricular initiatives. Key benefits include expanded facilities for the drama program, the addition of a second art room, and a dedicated space for the foreign language department. Additionally, the funds raised will ensure that classrooms and educational spaces are well-equipped to support students effectively.

FUNDING AN ENDOWMENT

Elevate Wellan will begin the process of investing in and growing Wellan’s endowment, a crucial element in securing the School’s long-term success. The Wellan Endowment will provide lasting financial stability, supporting key priorities such as competitive faculty salaries, tuition assistance for deserving students, and ongoing investment in programs and facilities. By contributing to the endowment, our community can help ensure a strong, sustainable future and uphold Wellan’s commitment to exceptional education.

The Next Phase

a review of our history

Building a strong future for our school means making bold decisions and smart investments. It's hard work — and we've been doing it since 2006.

Wellan's entire history is characterized by motivated community members working together to make the school the best it can be. Thanks to this community's unyielding support over the past 20 years, Wellan is widely known today as a premier Boston-area independent school offering  educational excellence across all program levels.

2006

Newton Montessori School was founded by parents invested in Montessori education

In September 2006, NMS opens its doors with a threadbare staff and 97 students enrolled in 3 program levels. The first Head of School is Ellen Kelly.

Supporting Wellan’s Future

a community effort

Elevate Wellan, our school’s first capital campaign, aims to raise $1.4 million to support critical priorities that will strengthen Wellan for years to come. We invite current families, alumni families, extended families, and faculty and staff to help shape Wellan’s future by participating in this two-year effort. Every contribution will play a vital role in expanding learning and activity spaces, improving accessibility, and ensuring our students and teachers have the resources they need to thrive. Our greatest achievements have come when our community boldly comes together to accomplish what once seemed impossible—now is the time to make a lasting impact with your generosity and vision.
