In response to the COVID-19 state of emergency declared in Massachusetts, Wellan will not host any in-school events through the remainder of the 2019–2020 school year. The school building is closed until further notice.

The following Parent Association events will happen virtually:

• Newton Serves (4/26)

  • The Newton Serves event has been cancelled. However, to show our love and appreciation for Newton and our community, we encourage everyone who can to participate in #NewtonTogether on Monday, April 20th.

• Walk for Hunger (5/3)

  • A Message from Lisa Lappin Levine, Event Chair:  Over the past few years, Wellan has formed a team to participate in The Walk for Hunger. This year is no exception, and in fact the need is even greater. While we won't be able to gather together to walk through Boston and beyond, we can join together to raise funds to provide much-needed relief for those dealing with food insecurity during the COVID-19 crisis. Please consider joining the Wellan virtual team or making a donation by visiting our team’s page.

• Book Fair (5/4)

  • A Message from Tracy Goulding, Event Chair:  As the trend has continued from virtual classes to virtual staff appreciation, so the next logical step is to head to the virtual book fair! Libraries are still closed; why not take this opportunity to purchase new books to read and build your libraries at home. While this isn't the same as transforming the community room into a book-extravaganza, we hope that you can find some time together with your child(ren) to choose books from Scholastic so that when your parcel arrives, your child's eyes can glow in the same way that they do after their class shopping time at school.   • Please note:

    • every book only purchase over $25 ships for free

    • expedited shipping is available

    • books ship directly to your home

    • all purchases through the Scholastic dollars programme benefit Wellan (for the library, classroom reading areas, elementary guided reading books and teaching materials)

  • We look forward to hearing stories and seeing photos of happy Wellan students with their new book purchases :-) Thank you for supporting reading and the imagination that it creates. 

• PA Meeting (5/13, 7 PM)

  • Join us online as we meet to have a look at our year in review and plan for next year! All are welcome! We will be in touch with instructions about how to access the meeting.

• Pride Parade (6/13)

  • A Message from Sachié Karmacharya, Event Chair:  This year’s Pride Parade is postponed until next year. (Save the Date: 6/12/21) That being said, the need for love, celebrating, and community is more important than ever. Look for information soon regarding Wellan’s Virtual Pride Celebration of “Be Who YOU Are!”
